Back problems

Congenital Scoliosis

Means it doesn’t form properly in the womb it’s not known medically why it develops.

Idiopathic scoliosis develops at a stage in childhood and its not due to bad posture, it can be in the upper part thoracic or lower lumber it can be 10 degrees in about 25% of the majority of the population. It can progress to 100 degrees and cause premature death, patients with 50 degrees curves at maturity or 80 degrees during adulthood have an increased risk of shortness of breath and they could have severe pain or not at all, child bearing could be affected. If scoliosis is in the thoracic, upper part of the back only, It’s known as the C curve in the chest region, the rib and shoulder may hang lower than the other shoulder blade affecting right or left part of the spine. The S curve double, goes from upper to lower thoracolumber. If untreated it can cause back pain due to muscle imbalances, as the spine curves sideways and goes into spasm, ligaments and muscles become hardened and as it becomes more severe small bones that make up the spine. Breathing problems in severe cases heart problems because of deformity of the ribs in the chest region, due to the compression, can affect the liver, colon, and other organs.

My approach to treating the diseased body

At the clinic a full consultation and a full history is taken and a explanation of the treatment, on the first visit. If you have x- rays you can bring them along with you, but these are not necessary. You will be asked to bring suitable clothing, a loose cotton tracksuit, as I treated fully clothed. All children must be accompanied by a parent or a guardian. Treatments are gentle and non – evasive and tailor made for each client’s needs, I treat alternate days, one day on and one day rest, as this allows the body time to heal itself. Most of the body work is treated with my feet and some with my hands.
Lower Back Pain

Sacroiliac Joint

Sacroiliac joint is located at the bottom of the spine, you have one either side of the spine, it helps to make up the bottom part of the pelvic girdle sits between the sacrum and the iliac. These joints can often get stuck, one half of the pelvis can glide forwards or backwards and the pelvis can twist, causing irritation of the lliolumbar ligament, which results in inflammation of the sacroiliac joint.

Sacroiliac joint pain, Is quite common after child birth, as the hormone relaxing is released in preparation for child birth. Symptoms include pain either side of the lower back , it can range from an ache or a sharp pain which can restrict movement the pain may radiate out into your buttocks
Sacroiliac joint, lower back pain often radiates to the front of the groin. Classic Symptoms are difficulty sitting and driving for long periods, getting in and out of the car, putting shoes and socks on, and you may experience weakness of the leg.

Contributing Factors

It could be the wrong diet junk food which weakens the joints. Whiplash, trips and falls and bucket seats in the car, as the posture is not straight and on an upward angle, any sudden jerks are putting unnecessary strain onto the joints and the whole lumber region, causing the joints to be overstretched and out of line.

Ladies have a hard time as they experience hormonal changes, with their monthly cycle and during pregnancy and this could weaken the joints. If a woman has an epidural, pain killer when in labour, It may help her at the time, but after one year, when the hormones have normalised, that could be when the back pain becomes apparent.
